Surfaces that look like marble
Surfaces that look like marble
Marble effect lacquers look deceptively authentic when realistic colours are used, but they are the perfect tool for achieving high design standards when imaginative colours are used.
How to – Marble effect
Step 1:
- Ensure that priming foil, laminated chipboard or MDF surfaces are well sanded
- Prime with 1 x 150 - 200 g/m² FANTASTIC-FILL, mixing ratio (by volume) 10 : 1 with PU Hardener DR 4071 and diluted with 15 % PU Thinner DV 4900
- Allow to dry for at least 16 h / 20 °C
- Sand at 280 - 320 grit
- Apply 1 - 2 x 100 - 150 g/m² UNA-COLOR DB 45245-(colour tone) in the base colour tone, mixing ratio 10 : 1 with PU Hardener DR 4070 and diluted with 10 % PU Thinner DV 490
- Allow to dry for at least 16 h / 20 °C
- Sand until slightly smooth (400 grit)
Step 2:
- Apply UNA-COLOR DB 45245-(colour tone) in the desired marbling colour tones, mixing ratio 10 : 1 with PU Hardener DR 4070, dilute into a marbling mixture of 1 : 5 with PU Thinner DV 490 and patinate in irregular lines of 3 -10 g/m² at a distance of 15 - 20 cm using a cup gun (circular jet)
- Moisten crumpled-up greaseproof paper or a natural sponge with Marbling effect solution DV 4991 and dab it onto the patinated surface
- Allow to dry for 1 - 2 h
Step 3:
- Top coat with 1 x 100 - 150 g/m² UNA-PUR DE 55x(gloss level) / DE 4259x(gloss level), mixing ratio 10 : 1 with PU Hardener DR 4070 and diluted with 10 - 15 % PU Thinner DV 4900
- Allow to dry for at least 16 h / 20 °C
- Or alternatively apply 2 x 100 - 120 g/m² DU 45229 PUR Acrylic brilliant lacquer, leaving 10 - 60 mins. between coats mixing ratio 2 : 1 with PU Hardener DR 4005 thinned with 40 % PU Thinner DV 4935
Polishing to a high gloss can be performed as necessary after > 24 h of complete hardening.
Technical Information Marble Effect
Products required
- The marble effect gives each surface a unique appearance; the user should become familiar with the specific technique prior to application.
- PU lacquers should not be processed and dried at material/ room temperatures below 18 °C.
- Please sand back PU lacquered surfaces before applying fresh lacquer, and coat the sanded surfaces as soon as possible to avoid adhesion problems.
- Final hardness of the coating is achieved after one week in correct storage conditions (at least 20 °C room temperature).
- Please apply a test coating under real conditions!
