More sustainability for our products

As a family business with a history spanning generations, we see it as our duty to take responsibility for future generations.

More sustainability for our products

As a family business with a history that spans generations, we see it as our duty to take responsibility for future generations. That is why we have decided to restructure our product range: By 2030, we will replace all solvent -based products in our portfolio with sustainable alternatives and increasingly clog on regenerative raw materials. The goal is to reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and achieve maximum resource conservation. In this way, we want to make an active contribution to preserving a world worth living in for future generations and meet future market requirements.

What does that mean for you?

By the end of 2023, we will have completely removed our nitrocellulose lacquers and solvent -based acid- curing lacquers from our product range. In a further step, we will replace all remaining solvent -based coatings with sustainable alternatives by 2030.

In redesigning the product portfolio, we are guided by the UN's sustainability goals.

Changes in the product range

Our measures to date:

  • Made in Germany: We produce all our products in Germany and have been loyal to the location for over 110 years.
  • Since 1996, we have been producing our own brand "Proterra" from renewable raw materials.
  • We are constantly developing and expanding our environmentally friendly coating systems, such as water-dilutable lacquers or natural oils.
  • We advise our customers on efficient surface build-ups and new technologies, such as UV roller applications, BRC varnishes, excimer technologies, etc.
  • We pay special attention to the avoidance of raw materials with a high hazard potential.
  • We are increasingly clogging renewable raw materials for our products.
  • We save raw materials, energy and waste by optimising our internal processes.
  • Conducting studies on sustainable products and application processes supports us in our development towards more sustainability.
  • We are continuously developing innovative coating formulations to avoid emissions from coating layers.
  • With our ISO 9001 quality management system, we are in a constant process of improvement.
  • Special recycling systems feed a wide variety of packaging into a sustainable recycling process.
  • We have joined the "METAL recycles forever" initiative. This stands for high-quality metal packaging that enables resource-saving recycling management to optimise sustainable distribution channels.
  • At the FARBEUNDLACK Award in 2020, we won 1st prize in the category "Best Sustainability Approach" with our radiation-curing paints based on renewable raw materials. We received 3rd place in the category "Best Product Innovation" with our "Hesse POREGUARD Technology".
  • In recent years, a large proportion of plastic containers have been eliminated from our product portfolio. By replacing black plastic containers with tinplate containers, we achieve a saving of 50 tonnes of plastic per year.
  • By the end of 2023, we will have completely removed our nitrocellulose lacquers and solvent-based acid-curing lacquers from our product range.

Our planned measures:

  • In a further step, we will replace all remaining solvent-based coatings with sustainable alternatives by 2030. In redesigning the product portfolio, we are guided by the UN's sustainability goals.
  • Basically, this involves the three pillars of sustainability: economic, ecological and social. We have decided to certify this through German Industrial Standard EN ISO 90001, 45001, 50001, 14001. These standards already cover a large part of our work, but we also plan to obtain ISO 14064 and life cycle assessment for individual products in accordance with ISO 14040/14044.
